There is a straight forward answer to that - many of the early meetings were held at Wanborough Manor but that is quite a long time ago. The discussion group developed with the encouragement of one of Puttenham's past Rectors who wanted to foster understanding of different points of view through the sharing of ideas. The explanation of the name's origin, however, is probably the most reliable answer you will ever get at one of our meetings ! With the iintention of exploring a range of philosophical, religious and moral questions, the composition of the group reflects a range of views. Discussions cover many topics - sometimes all in the some evening ! - and individuals ore free to express their own views or just listen to the views of others. Our previous secretary, the late (and much missed) its. Paddy Smith, suggested renaming the group the "Religious Pluralism Discussion Group". This is still its official title and may give a clue to its nature; however, "Wanborough Group" seems to be a more memorable and friendly label. New members are always welcome, as is anyone who would like to try a "taster" discussion without any commitment to regular attendance. We meet every four to six weeks usually on a Tuesday from 8.15 pm. If you are interested please ring me for the date of our next meeting. We would be delighted to welcome people of any faith and of none.
And a story to leave you with Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson were on a camping holiday. They were in their sleeping bags and had been asleep for about an hour when they found they were both awake again. Holmes said to Watson: "Look at the bright moon shining down on us, and look at the glorious array of stars across the sky. What does that say to you?" Watson replied: "Why, nature is so beautifully designed it can only point to a supreme designing being, which we might call God !" Holmes' response: " No, Watson, it suggests that someone has stolen our tent !" Evelyn Gaff
